Discover Community Tourism, The Travelling Craze Sweeping Across Thailand

There's a new way of seeing the world which has inspired more and more travelers in recent years. Eco-tourism and 'voluntourism' have become by-words for more responsible travel in foreign climes, but even with good intentions, the benefits of short-term projects can vary. However, community tourism takes a more insightful approach, emphasizing local involvement and control of the tourist industry and creating employment and training opportunities for local people. Thailand is one country where this kind of holiday is really making a difference.

Rebuilding communities through tourism
One reason why there is such a community ethic in the tourist industry here is down to the after-effects of the 2004 tsunami disaster, which destroyed a great many lives and settlements on Thailand's southern coast. Disaster relief charities like NATR (North Andaman Tsunami Relief) were set up to re-build and create projects to help those affected and this not-for-profit organisation now runs as Andaman Discoveries, a holiday operator specializing in community-based tours.

Thailand's Andaman coast is a desirable holiday spot in itself, with long, creamy-white beaches, desert islands and underwater reefs. But trips to seaside villages like Ban Talae Nok have taken on a community-based aspect, thanks to home-stays in native villages, where visitors can enjoy home-cooked cuisine, learn traditional crafts or explore nearby jungle terrain. While travelers immerse themselves in the way of life here, the locals gain a sense of empowerment from bringing money into their community and rebuilding it themselves.

Holidays that give something back
To the north of the country, the Chiang Rai province may not have had the battle with the elements which affected the south, but residents of the mountain villages can and do benefit from the kind of tourism which gives back, rather than takes away. Many communities near places like Kiew Karn in the remote countryside are now directly involved in tourism, working in partnership with companies like Asian Oasis.

Villages provide locally-made bamboo and wood lodges for accommodation, rustle up mouth-watering alfresco meals and local guides take visitors trekking amongst the wild banana trees and remote trails. There are options including elephant rides, village tours and craft-making such as batik, along with the more typical holiday relaxation activities such as massages, all managed by the community.

Even if you've come to the heady sights and smells of Bangkok on your Thai holidays, community river cruises operate from the capital along the Chao Phraya River, up-cycling old rice barges to provide an authentic experience. Not only this, but the funds raised from the tour boats have been injected back into the bank-side settlements and local dwellings, many of which have been damaged by flooding in the past.

Community tourism certainly argues its case well, if the positive evidence in rural and coastal Thailand is anything to go by. These kinds of projects can enhance the mutually beneficial aspects of a holiday, generating local economy, preserving heritage and allowing travelers to learn and gain from their brief visit. As an alternative to the party towns of Phuket or an all-inclusive, Western-owned resort, community tourism is one craze worth sustaining.

If you’re finding yourself inspired by these unique holidays, head online to find your cheap Thailand flights.

Most Popular Foods in Texas

Fans of red meat, chicken and all things spicy will find their culinary heaven in Texas as this vast Southern US state takes in influences from German, Mexican, Native American and Creole cuisine and blends them all to absolutely delicious effect. As the state is so large, it is no wonder that dishes vary dramatically from region to region, with Southern parts taking in strong influences from Mexico and adding a spicy kick to many recipes, whilst 'All American' cooking is evident in dishes such as the enormous sourdough 'biscuits' that may come dunked in gravy or smeared in honey or butter. Although beef is a big part of Texan cooking, the fried chicken steak is considered by many to be the real national dish.

The Texas Part Of Tex-Mex Cooking

Most of us have heard of Tex-Mex dishes such as nachos, fajitas and tacos, but how many of us could point out which of these have their origins in Texas and which in Mexico. In truth, Tex Mex cooking owes a culinary debt to both Texas and Mexico, taking traditional spiced Mexican dishes and corn or flour pancakes and adding US-influenced ingredients such as ground beef, melted cheese and cooling agents such as sour cream.

The Legendary Texas Barbeque

Texans love their barbeques and no trip to the state is complete without eating food served hot off the grill. Smoked meats are always firm barbeque favourites and beef is the most common meat, unlike in other US states, sausages are more likely to be made of beef than pork and smoked brisket is another popular barbeque choice. The culinary influence of European settlers, combined with African American and Native American cooking ingredients and methods, can all be detected in the unique and delicious Texan BBQ.

Texan Chilli Con Carne

Texan Chilli con Carne is a deliciously rich, spicy dish, but differs from Mexican chilli in that it does not include beans. Although chilli-making methods vary across the Lone Star State, as Texas is known, good quality meat chunks, tomatoes, onions and spices are the key ingredients in almost all Texan chillis. The resulting chilli is also used to make Frito pie - a dish that uses the Fritos brand corn tortilla chip to form a pie that is truly unique to Texas and a popular dish at informal social gatherings. Corn tortilla chips are also used to accompany delicious, creamy guacamole, made using the giant avocados that were first known here as 'Alligator Pears'. In their larger form, corn tortillas are used to make tacos where the corn crescent is filled with salad and chicken or meat, plus grated cheese and toppings such as sour cream or the tangy local version of salsa.

Vegetarians In Texas

The meat loving Texans are not known for their fondness of vegetarian dishes, but a vegetarian can still eat well in the state, especially those who are fond of spicy foods. Houevos Rancheros, which is a spicy scrambled egg dish, is a menu staple, whilst bean and chilli stews, meat-free tacos and enchilladas filled with veggies, tomato sauce and topped with cheese are all filling meat-free dishes.

Experience, relaxation, adventure and tons and tons of fun await you whenever you are on a vacation. That is why some people really do make sure that they can travel at least once or twice a year to take a break from their busy schedules and boring routines. 5 Of the Best British Getaways to Try This Autumn

The British springtime is often so full of promise, but in truth the British summertime is all too often a complete disappointment. However, there is one season that a chill in the air cannot ruin and that is the great British autumn. It doesn't seem to matter how much it rained in the spring or how appallingly cold it was all summer long, when the trees turn those magnificent shades of red and gold, all is well with the world again.

Wrap up
A break in the UK during the autumn can really be fantastic. There is no hope or expectation for beach weather, just don a few extra layers, a hat, a scarf and some boots or Wellies and get out and enjoy.

The Gower Peninsula in South Wales was the first place in Britain to be designated an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and it only takes a glimpse see why. The beaches are great in the summer, but a seaside walk is just as enjoyable in the autumn you'll just need more clothing! You will find an abundance of wildlife, ancient castles and churches, eponymous Welsh hills and valleys as well as dunes, marshes and caves. This is a real autumnal adventure and offers some brilliant fun family days out.

Cornwall is of course a popular British summer holiday destination, but it is arguably even better out of season. The Falmouth Oyster Festival, which takes place every autumn, is a great attraction for lovers of sea food. There are also some fabulous coastal walks during which you can enjoy all this amazing season has to offer. Falmouth is also home to the Cornish National Maritime Museum, which is worthy of a look.

Colours
The New Forest really comes into its own at this time of year. The colours are extraordinary and there is so much to see and do in the forest. You will find a good number of Forestry Commission car parks dotted around the place, so why not park up, wrap up a little and take a stroll through the forest. There is plenty of wildlife, including ponies (obviously) but you may also see deer, wild pigs and some fantastic birds of prey. There are plenty of forest towns when you want to get back to civilisation, including Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Burley. Bournemouth and Southampton are also nearby.

Wildlife
Located in the east of The Highlands, The Cairngorms is the largest national park in the UK. It is stunning any time of year, but in the autumn it is breathtaking. This is the break for you if you like wildlife. The Cairngorms National Park offers a home to around a quarter of the UK's endangered plant, animals and bird species. So, if you want to catch a glimpse of something rare, this is the place to come.

The Isle of Man annual Autumn Walking Festival is one for the ramblers. It is open to everyone and there are walks that will suit all levels of experience and fitness. If you are new to the idea try one of the less challenging walks. There is also an excellent choice of landscapes, including woodland, rivers, hills and coastline.

Autumn really is a magical time and if you can't get away, head down to your local park or look for your nearest arboretum and enjoy an hour or so kicking through the leaves.

Top 10 Things To Do Whilst In Nice

The following are just a selection of the many exciting options on offer in France's leading southern resort.

1. Dance the night away
Choose a nightclub that suits your mood and budget, whether you fancy something radical and funky or a more laid-back vibe. Choose Le Smarties on Rue Defly for a 70s feel or Ghost at 3 Rue Barillerie for an intimate club feel featuring drum and bass served up with cocktails.

2. Enjoy a spa treatment
Every city has a choice of spa venues and treatments, but only Nice can boast 'chococooning.' La Bulle D'Isis on Rue Massena offers chocolate lovers the opportunity to be covered in the creamiest of ganache mixtures along with liberal amounts of melted chocolate in the cause of beauty.

3. Sample the wine Nice is at the centre of a movement aimed at producing the most natural wines using the minimum amount of chemicals during production. Sample a variety at La Part des Anges on Rue des Gubernatis which is a fantastic little bistro which also sells wines.

4. Take in a concert
With a couple of large exhibition halls regularly featuring big names in modern music, Nice is perhaps surprisingly quite renowned for its modern music scene. If a stadium type concert isn't quite your thing, check out the eponymous Francis Gag Theatre which hosts events from Moliere plays to rap gigs and dance productions, mainly aimed at keeping Nicois dialect and folklore alive.

5. Try the local delicacy
Everyone should sample the traditional bread recipe of the region the socca. A kind of flatbread made with chickpea flour it has been described as being similar to a pancake. Nissa Socca on Rue Son Repart serves up traditional socca along with pizza and pasta accompanied by jugs of wine and beer for a lively atmosphere. Chez Rene Socca on Rue Miralheti is legendary for the street views, surly waiters and authentic flavours.

6. Visit an art museum
Nice is home to some world class art museums offering styles from classical to pop art. The Musee d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain set on the Promenade des Artes offers a fantastic collection from across Europe and America. The Musee Matisse is a villa set close to the artist's former home which celebrates his life and work in a unique setting.

7. Relax on a private beach
The beaches around Nice are notoriously stony, making them uncomfortably hot to walk on when the sun is blazing down. Choose a one of the hotels which offers guests carpeting to spare them blisters and have your refreshing drinks brought directly to your sun lounger.

8. Have afternoon tea
Take a day cruise along the Med and follow it up with tea on the terrace at Auer Gourmet in the shadow of the Opera. Have a snack to accompany the vast selection of teas, including 'green tea and mint' and 'spicy chocolate'.

9. Take a trip back in time
Pay a visit to the Musee de Paleontologie Humaine de Terra Amata on Boulevard Carnot. The result of an archaeological exploration of the area, the museum offers artefacts dating back 400,000 years including examples of early tools and a footprint literally set in stone.

10. See a Russian church The Avenue Nicolas II is the setting for the bizarre sight of a traditional Russian Cathedral, complete with onion domes. Featuring the fantastic colours that Russian architecture of this style is so well-known for, the interior is filled with beautifully-worked icons, carvings and wall paintings.

The Hutongs of Beijing: A Stroll Through the Past

Beijing Forbidden City
Beijing is a fascinating city with so many exciting things to do and see, such as the Forbidden City and Great Wall. The Chinese capital is also a city that is rapidly Westernizing. It is still possible, however, to find glimpses of the old Beijing that fulfills most people's preconceived notions of China.

Just head over to the hutongs around the Drum Tower in the Gulou area. Hutongs, or narrow alleyways around traditional gray brick homes, are giving way to high rise apartment buildings and wide streets throughout the city. The Gulou area, however, is one the municipal government is trying to leave intact for tourists to experience.

Spend a morning, or better yet, a day, just wandering through the hutongs, which are bounded by Second Ring Road on the north and Guloudongdajie (East Gulou Street) on the south. Don’t worry about getting lost as you walk through the narrow lanes. If you walk far enough in any direction, you’ll soon come across a major street with buses and taxis to take you to your next destination.

Almost every home in the hutongs is marked with a wooden door painted red; some have Chinese New Year’s posters glued to them. Several families may live in apartments behind one red door. If the door is open, feel free to look inside to see bicycles and plants lining the walkways, but don’t step over the stoop without an invitation. That’s considered an invasion of privacy.

As you wander through the hutongs, you’ll come across small shops selling necessities of daily life and restaurants with only a few tables. These probably won’t have any menus in English; non-Chinese speakers can order by pointing to dishes other diners are having. The dishes served at these small eateries will be prepared traditional style and not sanitized for Western palates as meals in major hotel restaurants are.

Snack food junkies will want to hit the hutongs early in the morning, preferably no later than 7 a.m. That’s because some foods, such as youtiao, are served only in the morning. Youtiao is made by doubling a narrow length of bread dough, braiding it into a stick and then deep-frying it in a huge cast iron wok. Greasy, but absolutely delicious fresh out of the wok.

Mornings are also a good time to eat congee (bean porridge) and steamed bread. Add a few jiaozi (dumplings/pot stickers) and you have a typical Chinese breakfast.

Morning is a good time to visit the hutongs, especially in the summer. Most hutong homes don’t have toilets, with residents using a communal toilet down the street. These can get pretty smelly in the summer. Since these are public toilets, tourists with a need can use them, but they’ll need to have their own toilet paper.

The Drum Tower is the main tourist attraction in the area; the Bell Tower is behind it. Walk straight west from there, through some renovated hutongs, to the Soong Ching Ling House, located along Houhai Lake. Visitors who have fought the crowds at the Forbidden City will appreciate the feeling of peace and serenity her compound provides. Soong Ching Ling was the widow of Sun Yat-Sen and is known as the “mother of China.”

End your day in the hutongs by strolling south along the lakes, stopping at sidewalk cafes and coffee bars for refreshments, as you prepare to re-enter a modern Beijing.

Breathe The European Air

For a busy person, given a vacation for a day or two to any of the sovereign states in Europe will surely be highly appreciated. If ever I’ll be given an opportunity to travel to one particular state in Europe, it would be Ireland. I have met and known few nice and well, unlikable Irish people through my husband and my curiosity to learn more of their traits and culture influenced me much to wanting to visit the place. I wonder how it’s like to stand on the Emerald Isle. Will I ever get a chance to meet the mischievous creature wrapped in emerald green clothing called the Leprechaun? I hope he will direct me to the end of the rainbow so I could steal some of his gold. (Lol!) Since it is almost time for St. Patrick’s Day, Leprechaun should be present and Ireland, and other other counties, will definitely be painted emerald green and shamrocks will be everywhere.

What about you? Do you want to celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day at a place where it truly was originated? It would be a great holiday escape from your chaotic workplace. Why not breathe the European air and free your mind from the deadlines at work? If you plan to have a vacation in Europe, particularly in Ireland, you must check out holiday homes Europe, which offers homes, vacation rentals and cottages to any must-visited countries in Europe like Ireland. Who knows you'll get connected with your Irish roots while there? If you want to travel to any places in Europe in the future, simply refer to holiday homes Europe to be guided in choosing the best accommodation that fits your taste and budget during your holiday getaway.

What's Your Family Holiday Plan?

Holiday season is here once again. Everyone sure is busy thinking or had already thought of how to spend the holidays the best way he could whether it is to spend with family, friends or alone.

I am sad for those who are far and couldn’t make it to spend the holidays especially the Christmas Eve together with their families. It would be a blue and cold holiday or Christmas for them but thanks to the modern technology that bridges the distance. There is a webcam chat or simply a phone call that keeps those who are working far close to their family. Being in the land where there is lack of warmth from a family’s love, the best way to feel the joy of the holiday season is to hear from them.

On the other hand, I am happy for those who’ll be spending the holidays with the presence of family, relatives and friends. Nothing can beat the joy of celebrating the holidays with the whole family. I am excited for it for we will be spending the holiday with the whole family. It’s the only season our family can be together. While we are spending the holiday at home, others are for sure planning for a family holiday getaway to a beautiful place for it is a lot of fun. If only we could have family getaway this holiday season, we would. What about you? What's you family holiday plan?

Explore Rome and Spend a Night in a Hotel in Rimini

Italy truly is a beauty. It is one of the places I’ve longed to explore. This country has been in my list since grade school. I want to see the magnificent structures and learn the history of Rome in particular. The awesome sceneries and the history of the place would surely fill my hungry mind and vision. So my first stop when there would be Rome which is the country’s capital. I wish!

Here’s what I would do if this wish will come true. After a day of exploration in Rome, I would take a train or a bus to Rimini to spend the night in one of the hotels in there. Rimini as well has something it is proud of like the best hotels and accommodations it offers. A hotel that caught my attention while doing a search in hotel rimini was Le Rose Suite Hotel. For some reason, I feel a tang of excitement while browsing through the hotel information and photos.

Here are some information about the hotel:

- overlooking the sea
- white and slender buildings in colonial style
- it has veiled gazebo and heated pool
- it has fireplace at the lobby facing the refreshing view of the beach
- it offers Internet connectivity, baby sitting services, kids games and a lot more
- no in-house or on-site restaurant but they recommend the best restaurant nearby (not bad)

There are restaurants near the hotel that offer take-away services, it would be just fine. I just love the hotel's colonial style and the fireplace at the lobby. I am imagining of chilling in there while sipping my wine and enjoying the view of the beach before my eyes. Lovely!

If you are to explore Rome but had booked a hotel in Rimini, you can take a plane ride from Rome to Rimini if you want a quick trip but for sight seeing purposes, either a bus or a train ride would be best to take so you can enjoy the beauty you can see on the road.

Missed Travel Opportunity

I was given a chance to travel to a country outside Philippines before but I was so naive to travel somewhere far from my homeland so I declined it. It was a great opportunity I knew but there were lots of what ifs that I asked to my self. Not to mention the fears I felt and alarming voices that questioned my safety and security during my travel. The fact that I would be traveling alone as well added to the fear. Now that I had recalled that missed opportunity to be able to step on other lands, I am quite regretful. If I would be given another opportunity, I would definitely grab even if it'll be just a day tour. I would be thankful to at least stay in one of the holiday cottages offered at Hoseasons.

What’s Your Family Holiday Getaway?

Do you already have a holiday getaway in mind? This holiday season fits for a whole family to bond and share some quality time together. It is this particular season when the whole family should enjoy each other’s company. It is this season when we forget about meetings and set aside works. It is this season when we get away from the hassles of our busy life and hectic schedules. It is this season when we simply spend happy moments with family. So, have you already thought of a perfect destination for a whole family trip or you rather spend the holiday at home?
Some people choose to spend holiday season at home while some choose luxury or choose to explore the other areas of the world like traveling overseas. Well, my family will likely choose the first that I’ve mentioned. We rather spend the expense for overseas travel to holiday preparations this holiday. But to those who love to travel overseas this holiday season, why don’t you try the villas in turkey particularly on the Aegean Coast? Turkey can be a perfect destination of your family holiday getaway overseas. During the day, you can dip in the shining crystal beach there or explore the historical and architectural places for an educational Greek mythology adventure. Then at night, you and your family can have good night sleep in the villa.

Three Famous Tourist Spots in The Philippines

My sister asked me to help her with her assignment one day. It was about three popular tourist spots in the Philippines. I was in deep thought for a few. I only visited two known places to visit for tourists and those are Boracay and Palawan. So those are the only places I could refer and the third on my mind was Bohol.

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River or Underground River is now widely known. It was even nominated to the New Seven Wonders of the World competition which for sure, ignited more tourists' interests to come and travel into the world's longest underground river and see before their eyes the natural rock formation inside. When I was their to experience my first Puerto Princesa Undergound River tour, I saw several visitors who are from here and from different countries.

Boracay Island is one of the major tourist destinations in the Philippines. It is loved and known simply for its powdery white sands scattered everywhere along with the fun see-water adventures and awesome night life. With all those bars lined in the beach front, you have all night to bar hop. When it comes to accommodations, there are several luxury and affordable hotels you can choose. When I was there back in 2006, I enjoyed a lot more on the foods at La Reserve. Don't dare miss a taste of their sea foods served everyday.

Chocolate Hills in Bohol is what I look forward to see. I haven't been in Bohol but it will be the next place I hope visit in my list. I always wanted to visit Bohol and see for myself these beautiful hills shaped almost symmetrically. Almost all my friends who are foreigners in our country know about chocolate hills and the tarsiers. These hills by the way are called Chocolate Hills because they turn chocolatey brown during summer, which is the best time to come out to visit beautiful beaches that Bohol also has.

Interesting Landmarks In Tangier

Tangier is located in the northern part of Morocco. It is an important port city. Its rich history makes it a great place for tourists. Many cultures and civilizations had left its mark in this place. It was also considered as a refuge for lots of cultural diversities during the time between it was still a Phoenician town and the era of its independence. Finding an apartment in Tangier is not difficult to find because the city is now being developed and modernized with seaside 5-star hotels,  a soccer stadium and even a new airport. Check out its diverse landmarks.
Dar-el-Makhzen

Dar-el-Makhzen is the palace for the Sultans of Morocco. It is somewhat the equivalent of the White House. This grand residence has two museums within its premises: the Museum of Moroccan Arts and the Museum of Antiquities. The museums contain discovered artifacts from ancient Roman sites such as Volubilis, Cotta and Lixus. You can also see here Morocco’s art works like carpets, silk and manuscripts. There is also Carthaginian tomb which is life-size and in this palace, you can find the Bital el-Mal treasury. This is noted for its wonderfully painted ceiling and coffers from the 18th century.

Café Hafa

Café Hafa is well-known for its magnificent view. It is seated at a cliff top and here, you can enjoy the wide oceanic view of the Bay of Tangier. Since 1921, its style of décor has never been changed and this is also a café where famous writers and singers had spent their time. A few of them are The Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Their mint tea is their specialty which is of a Tangier brew.

Fondation Lorin

This building is a place of arts and history. It is within an ancient synagogue and has displays of history of Tangier. They are showed through local papers, plans, photographs and posters all depicting the musical, political, social and sporting history of this port city. It also houses a few exhibitions and contemporary paintings.

Grand Socco

The Grand Socco means Big Square and this is the heart of the city. It is a very active place for nightlife and is characterized by rows and rows of local vendors selling cheap spices, fruits and other goods. The market is pretty much described as colorful that even the female peasant vendors wear striped foutas and wide-brimmed hats made of straw.

Hotel Continental

The Hotel Continental is one of the timely hotels in the bustling city of Tangier, Morocco that is still running until now. It is situated in the city centre. They also have rooms with captivating views of the harbor and the blue seas.

Gran Teatro Cervantes

This building has been standing since 1913 and has presented many theatrical programs. Gran Teatro Cervantes is built with the dedication for Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra who was a Spanish poet, novelist and playwright. This theatre was one of the most highly-respected and known in North Africa. Famous singers and dancers performed in its stage. The restoration of Gran Teatro Cervantes was delayed because of the disputes of the Spanish state against the city officials of Tangier.

Tangier is fascinating from its culture to their people. Why not travel their unspoiled beaches and landmarks with a friendly companion and maybe with a Tangier tourist guide so you can learn more about the North American culture and tradition.
